The Backdrop - Dallas
Noisey and Gentleman Jack head to Dallas to explore the city's vibrant hip hop and arts scene. Once something of a entertainment industry ghost town, in recent years the scene's leaders have been taking full advantage of the twin powers of the radio and the Internet to help spread their music. Dorrough of "Ice Cream Paint Job" fame is probably the most visible rapper in the city, but he's definitely not the only local rapper making great music—in addition to Dorrough himself, we spoke to city staples such as Tum Tum, Snow tha Product, and ADD+. Perhaps it's the city's lack of pretension that sets it apart; there's a palpable sense of community in Dallas, one that manifests itself perfectly in the hip hop scene.
