Last year, Alexis Krauss and Derek Miller—the musicians who comprise noise pop duo Sleigh Bells—announced that they were taking a different approach to releasing music from then on. More output, more often, they said; and then came the mini-album Kid Kruschev, as if to make good on their promise.
Kid Kruschev softens the Sleigh Bells formula somewhat, though the chaos of what originally made the band great still very much remains, and their macabre visual style is very much still in play, as we see with their new video for "Favorite Transgressions."
The clip depicts Krauss hanging out of the back of a truck, and variously wearing cool wigs, before a card onscreen reads "On December 1st, 1999 Derek Miller and Alexis Krauss were involved in a vehicular collision in Jupiter, FL," and then another one says "They were transported to Jupiter Medical Center where they were both pronounced D.O.A." So far, so Sleigh Bells.
As for the track itself, Krauss' signature breathy vocals clash with Miller's riffing, and though Sleigh Bells might have decided to do things slightly different this time, their essence is still very much the same as it always was.
