Drake Has a Lil Wayne Tattoo Now, Obviously

Kind of surprised this didn't happen sooner to be honest.

I love my friends. They are great people who have done a lot for me. But would I get their faces tattooed on my body? I would probably not do that, though I am sorry to any of my friends that this may disappoint. I feel like, for the record, most people would probably not get tattoos of their friends, either.

Drake, however, is Drake, which means that he works differently than the rest of us. His entire reputation is built on the ideas that a) he has a lot of #feelings and b) he is kind of like the nerdy guy at school who wants to be included but who isn't sure how to go about that, so tries incredibly hard to impress everyone. This second tendency has resulted in Drake getting a bunch of weird and arguably lame (arguably very cute and well-meaning) tattoos. He wanted people to know that he liked Skepta, so he got a BBK tattoo (that is, he branded his skin forever, until death, with the letters "BBK" which stand for Boy Better Know, the name of Skepta's rap collective). He wanted people to know that he was #inspired by Aaliyah, so he got two Aaliyah tattoos. He wanted people to know that he #understands music and #loves Sade, so he… yeah you get the picture.

And now, surprising nobody, he has a portrait of Lil Wayne on his arm. To some degree, it makes sense: while it's rare that people get inked the fuck up with tattoos of their close pals, sometimes people do honor important figures in their lives, and as Drake's mentor, with whom he has worked countless times, Wayne fits the bill. But. I mean. I don't know man. It is kinda weird (although at this point it is also very Peak Drake). Like, Lil Wayne is not Drake's much-missed grandfather. I'd anticipate that Drake and Lil Wayne probably hang out quite a lot. A tattoo was not necessary. An edible 'thank you for all you've done for me' arrangement may well have sufficed, for now. But of course, Drake is Drake, and will continue to Drake forever. Perhaps he's trying to absorb the musical power of those he has needled onto his flesh. We will never know. Drake works in mysterious ways.
