Sleater-Kinney, the World's Greatest Rock Band, have released a new single. "Here We Come" is part of the brilliantly-named 7-Inches for Planned Parenthood series. It is great. It opens up with some loose, discordant guitars and hurries forward from there through twitches and spasms. Carrie Brownstein's guitar bristles up on Corin Tucker's tremoring yelp through the verses and then falls back into an atonal horror-circus in the pre-chorus. The song clicks into a simple four-beat with Brownstein playing a grizzled half-solo—it's almost as satisfying as the flawless drop in "Turn It On"—and Brownstein gets a sugary verse to herself, but it's so pleasant that it seems sinister and sardonic at once. Lyrically, it comes down to Tucker's howl: "Nothing finished / nothing won."
