Tove Lo Showed That Studio Performances Can Still Be Magic on 'TRL'

The Swedish singer-songwriter gave a blinding rendition of her track "Disco Tits" on Monday's show.

The return of MTV's TRL was met with some skepticism, considering the ways its teen target audience's engagement with music has changed since the show was cancelled in 2008. And while that is certainly true, what that skepticism didn't take into account was that live music is great, and that TRL's set-up, complete with small studio audience, is one that can still create magic.

That's not to say it always does, but on Monday, Swedish popstar Tove Lo showed up to perform her single "Disco Tits," and the results were a reminder of what studio performances can still offer. It was a pretty casual affair – not big or showy – but this didn't mean that production value wasn't taken into consideration with a pleasantly sleazy red light blanketing proceedings.

The performance saw Lo flexing her impressive vocals, surrounded by, and engaging a little with, an intimate crowd who genuinely looked as though they were having fun – basically, everything came together for what's actually kind of a masterclass in the art of the what a studio performance can be. It also doesn't hurt that the song is a banger. Watch the whole thing above.
