Listen to "Silver," a Fuzzy New Slice of Pop from Waxahatchee

It's the first song from her new album 'Out in the Storm,' due July 14.

In her guise as Waxahatchee, Katie Crutchfield has come a long way since her humble beginnings armed only with an acoustic guitar and the inborn gift of crafting gut-wrenchingly sweet and honest songs. Over the course of three albums, she has evolved, building a full band around her sound, and flexing her songwriting muscles more adventurously than on any of her previous projects (over the years she's been part of a number of bands including cult faves Swearin' and P.S. Eliot, with her sister Allison).

Her fourth LP under the moniker, Out in the Storm, is coming July 14, and today we have the first taste of what it has in store, via single "Silver". It's a typically fuzzy, guitar-led pop jam with dreamy harmonies and a Pity Sex-style bassline, all joined up by Crutchfield's irresistibly earnest vocal. The accompanying visual includes shots of Crutchfield singing while lit by a flashing light, and footage of she and her band (which includes Allison on guitar) playing amidst what can only be described as the set of Back to the Future's Under the Sea dance. And what, friends, could be better or indeed more #dreampop than that?
