Welcome to the Guide to Life

The people who determine the future should be those of us who will live in the future.

We don't need to tell you that things are a bit… um… weird right now. If there's one thing for certain, it's that everything is in question. The man who was inaugurated to the most powerful office in the world on Friday won his position on a platform fueled by xenophobia, misogyny, homophobia, fear mongering, racism, and more. It's a bit hard to believe, but here we are, forced to stare at a hateful, large Cheeto for at least the next four years as he sits in the Oval Office. There's no other way to say it: this fucking sucks.

Over the weekend, millions of people responded to this by marching against the bullshit ideas that put Donald Trump in office. The moment was euphoric and—perhaps most importantly—needed. Together, we stood for the basic ideas of human rights, that nobody should be treated differently just because they're not a white male, that the future is in our hands, that we will not let fear determine the lives of our children. Hate will not be tolerated, and if you stand for it, you're going to get sucker punched, and the internet will make fun of you for the rest of your life.

The question that's now on the minds of so many people is quite simple: where do we go from here, and how do we channel this frustration into real, actual change? If you're an intelligent young person, you're probably bursting at the seams with ideas. But how do you make those ideas reality? Starting today, across multiple verticals at VICE, we'll be providing you with guides on how to live. Want to host a benefit show? We've got you. Starting a band? No problem. Podcasting? Sure. Throwing a DIY rave? Easy. We'll continue publishing explainers on the things you need as you figure out how to live as your best self in this new era. It's guide to life because this doesn't just mean explicitly political action; it means taking steps to make the future yours in every way.
