VHÖL are the type of supergroup that you’re not allowed to refer to as a supergroup. Formed by John Cobbett (Ludicra), Sigrid Sheie (Hammers of Misfortune), Aesop Dekker (Agalloch) and Mike Scheidt (YOB, Lumbar), they create breakneck metal that tips its cap to both Dio and Meshuggah. We described their last album, Deeper Than Sky, as “strange, progressive, crusty space-thrash.”
To see how that all comes together, check out the latest episode of the Galaxy Barn Series, presented by Noisey, shot at last year’s Pickathon Festival in Oregon. Their live version of “Arising” is every bit as heavy and intricate live as it is on record.
