Mike D’s bi-weekly Beats 1 show, The Echo Chamber, is improvised around a beat. Guests show up, play some of their favorite records, talk with the Beastie Boy about music discovery, and usually get a tour of his pool house, but nothing is pinned in place and D somehow keeps things mellow while they spin off in different directions. Kim Gordon, Andy Samberg, Vince Staples, and Dev Hynes have all been on since it started last July, and they’re worth checking out here.
His latest show with BADBADNOTGOOD isn’t airing on Beats 1 until tomorrow afternoon at 3 PM ET, but we’re exclusively premiering two-fifths of the Canadian band’s live set for the show below, including a sumptuous collaboration with Mike D on Galt MacDermot’s “Coffee Cold.” There’s also a winding performance of their Kaytranada collaboration “Lavender” (the remix of which got Snoop Dogg inside the president’s head), and a laid-back interview about some of the band’s favorite records.
