Everything around you is beautiful.
It's pretty easy to get wrapped up in your day and not really notice what's going on around you. The ten seconds you spend on your phone, you might miss some act of humanity that could potentially inspire you, or make you think about your actions. It's usually the tiniest, seemingly insignificant moments that can affect you in some kind of way. You can see a lot of this in Somos's video for "Thorn In The Side."
Somos is a rock band from Boston, MA that makes thoughtful, hopeful music. About a year ago, we premiered the band's song "Streets Upon Streets," a track that has stuck with me a lot longer than most songs in the genre. The band is set to release their new record First Day Back on February 19, and by all estimations their music has gotten even better in that time. "Thorn In The Side" is proof of this, both visually and in the song itself. Sonically the band has risen to create solid, thoroughly impressive rock songs that can pack meaning without being too tiring or corny. The video exemplifies that disconnection from the superficial, from anxieties of how fucked the planet is, and instead letting one just notice what's going on immediately around you. Families, people trying to make a living, pure youthful energy, everything. And Somos makes the perfect soundtrack for enjoying pure exuberance.
