Young Yeller's Video of 1st Love" is the Epitome of Synthetic Love

Let's all skip school!

Directed/edited by Matt Porter, produced by dreambear

Young Yeller’s video for “1st Love” is the epitome of synthetic love: young, wild, and fleeting. The band takes a dive into the past, nostalgically mixing synth with guitar, creating a playground of emotion for three minutes. However, as we all know, that’s about as long as a first love typically lasts—so don't get too attached to the past.

Fronted by former Chrome Sparks member Jesse Brickel, "1st Love" will bring you right back to the days of skipping class and breaking the rules for that special someone. Directed by Matt Porter (Cracked, Funny or Die, Adult Swim), the video was shot in an off season amusement park in Conneticut and features tilt-a-whirls and carousels spinning round while a warm beat in the backdrop helps steer clear of the sadness that can sometimes be attributed to a first love (and inevitable heartbreak).

According to Porter's vision Kevin is the main character, a mid-30s directionless suburbanite who manages the park. He is somehow taken by one of these teenagers enough that he agreed to let them in. Meanwhile Jesse is his random pal.

"Why did Kevin agree to let these kids in?" says Porter before answering his own question. "I think it's a very sadly real situation for someone in their 30s to feel compelled help a bro out' and do a kid a favor like this, as a way to feel cool and to live vicariously through their experience. Why is Jesse there, and who is his character? He is just some equally directionless late-20s/early-30s friend of Kevin's who agrees to come along."

Jeez. Getting older sounds like a bummer.

The band's self-titled EP is out now and they play Glasslands in Brooklyn on 7/9. Give the video a view and go check them out! Who knows, it may be love at first sight.
