PREMIERE: The Shivas Slow it Down from Surf-Rock to Twee-Pop on "Gun In My Pocket"

Portland's The Shivas revisit an old single with fresh eyes.

Covers are one thing, but when a band drastically alters their own song beyond the point of recognition, calling it a cover doesn't cut it. Take Portland quintet The Shivas, who've just transformed their tom-heavy surf-rock single "Gun In My Pocket" into a mesmerizing cut of Roy Orbison jangle-pop. Released by Calvin Johnson's twee-proginating label K Records, this is a real change of pace for the longtime Burger Records alum, whose sixth LP Better Off Dead drops in February from K Records. Stream the song in its full make-over below and catch The Shivas on tour as they play a few nights with The Dandy Warhols.
