"Sunday Candy," the First Song from Donnie Trumpet and the Social Experiment's 'Surf,' a.k.a. Chance the Rapper's Next Project, Is Here

This is the first song from 'Surf,' the new Donnie Trumpet and the Social Experiment album.

Last month, Chance the Rapper told Billboard that we should be expecting a new album called Surf before the end of the year from his band, the Social Experiment, and that it would be helmed by bandmember Donnie Trumpet. And now we have the first song, "Sunday Candy," via Fader, which hits the same kind of upbeat vibe of the band's beloved cover of the Arthur theme song earlier this summer. This is total backyard barbecue, family reunion, drag your aunt onto the dancefloor music, except it's kind of also about a church pew, weekend-only romance, so I apologize for bringing your aunt into it. Anyway, there's a triumphant hook from Jamila Woods, some juke-indebted drums, and the project's eponymous trumpet (you may recognize Donnie Trumpet, a.k.a. Nico Segal, for his previous work alongside Vic Mensa in the band Kids These Days and on Vic's mixtape from last year). Oh yeah, and Chance the Rapper singing and rapping all over it. This is beautiful, and I am amped for Surf, and I will play this all Thanksgiving weekend, especially since it is supposed to snow, which is similar to rain, which is what the chorus of this song is about.
