Everything You Need to Know About Bringing "Girl Rising" to Brooklyn

For starters, the film—narrated by Meryl Streep, Kerry Washington, Anne Hathaway, Salma Hayek, Alicia Keys, and more—is the fictional tale of nine girls from around the world who overcome every obstacle in the way of getting an education.

For those of you unfamiliar with Girl Rising, the global campaign for girls' education, their new Richard E. Robbins-directed film will be the perfect introduction. Like many major docs, the Girl Rising film will only come to select cities with screenings planned, but don't worry, The Brooklyn Women's Collective has already taken care of that.

For starters, the film—narrated by Meryl Streep, Kerry Washington, Anne Hathaway, Salma Hayek, Alicia Keys, and more—is the fictional tale of nine girls from around the world who overcome every obstacle in the way of getting an education. Each story is written by an author from their country, and its all in a greater effort for girls' education.

The trailer alone will show you just how powerful the film seems to be, but like many other select movies, there's some stipulations about when and where the movie can be screened, which brings us to The Brooklyn Women's Collective. The collective has already planned a screening for April 8 at 7:30PM at the Court Street Stadium 12 in Downtown Brooklyn.
