Listen to the First Song from Dave Lombardo's Thrashy New Band, Dead Cross

Stream "We'll Sleep When They're Dead," the ex-Slayer drummer's fastest, nastiest work in years,

Photo by Robin Laananen / courtesy of Dead Cross A couple of months ago, we introduced the world to Dead Cross, the new hardcore punk band from Dave Lombardo, the legendary Slayer drummer (and all-around incredibly prolific, chill dude) and his pals, Justin Pearson (The Locust, Retox) on bass, Retox's Mike Crain on guitar, and vocalist Gabe Serbian. The band formed in a hurry, and almost by accident, after Lombardo's former band Philm broke up right before a scheduled run of dates with Mexico's Descartes a Kant. After a series of fortunate events (including a meeting with producer Ross Robinson), Lombardo decided to throw together a new band and see what happened onstage—and Dead Cross was born. They seem to be thriving, and even set sail on this past year's 70,000 Tons of Metal Cruise (an experience which Pearson documented for us here).

Judging by this ripping new track, "We'll Sleep When They're Dead," Lombardo's gamble has definitely paid off. Its caustic, manic blend of thrash, grind, noise rock, and hardcore is fast, ugly, and urgent (and a million times more intense than the new Slayer record). Get your first taste of Dead Cross below.
