Insult to Injury: Week Ending 2/28

Here's what the Noisey editors were listening to this week while nursing their Hot Pocket-related genital burns.

Welcome to Insult to Injury, the place on the internet where the Noisey editors gather on a weekly basis to talk about what we've been listening to (but really use music as an excuse to subtly talk about our haters and exes). This week, we are joined by Mike Cheese of Gehenna who definitely did not stab someone over a bucket of chicken. Speaking of things that most definitely did not happen, Eric definitely did not write Drew and Lauren's entries this week…

Migos - No Label 2
Migos are like the results of fetal alcohol syndrome and their new mixtape is the special olympics of rap. Special needs guys get to make music and we all get to sit on the sidelines and cheer for them. Errybody wins.

Superchunk - "Driveway to Driveway"
I listened to this and it sent me into an emo spiral which involved playing Something to Write Home About by The Get Up Kids three times in a row, before swaying to Buffalo Tom's "Late at Night" (note: this link is actually a My So-Called Life fan-made montage, soundtracked by BT, because obviously Angela and Jordan's love story is way better to watch than any of the band's actual videos). Seems like someone's feeling sentimental for something. If you dreamed up the vocal for a sweet but seriously geeky dude who unwittingly friendzoned his love interests right through to his mid-20s, it would sound like the reedy, yearning timbre of Superchunk's Mac McCaughan. But we all know nerds gets the girls in the end. If there was ever a second series of MSCL, Krakow would come up on top.

Thin Lizzy - "Rosalie"

Fuckin' Thin Lizzy, one of the greatest feel-good bands ever. They make me wanna get all

Risky Business

, grab a broom and "rip a solo" in my underwear. What a band. There's also a version of this track that exists that combines "Rosalie" with "Cowboy Song" which is basically like having the greatest sex of your life, a particularly good cigarette and then greatest meal of your life.

Weston - "Retarded"

Tomorrow is the birthday of one of my best friends in the world. If our lives are shaped by the people we know, then I’m very glad I met her at a library 16 years ago. I wasn’t actually doing anything educational, I was doing kickflips down the steps in front of it. She was walking her dog. Happy 30th, Tam. 44-8264

Woods - "Moving To The Left"
So indie rock died awhile ago. At least that's what the blogs keep saying—this blog and this writer included—but holy shit, the first quarter of 2014 is out here trying to make me say that guitars with feelings are sweet again. In the upcoming month, we'll have new records from Future Islands, Real Estate, the Men, Mac DeMarco, Woods, and probably some other shit I'm forgetting. Because I'm a fancy-pants music journalist, I've heard them all—and I can confidently each act is producing some of the best work of their respective careers. Today, I've been jamming (bro) to the new Woods record With Light and With Love. Above, you can stream the band's first single "Moving To The Left," and in typical Woods-fashion, it's something you'll want to listen to on repeat at least 438 times—and that won't be enough.

RICK ROSS FEATURING KANYE WEST & BIG SEAN - "SANCTIFIED"

HEY SUP MOTHERFUCKERS?! FIRST THINGS FIRST: I'M WRITING IN ALL CAPS BECAUSE IT'S THE ONLY WAY I FEEL LIKE I CAN ILLUSTRATE ON THE PAGE HOW MY VOICE SOUNDS IN REAL LIFE. SECOND, I'M WRITING ABOUT THE NEW RICK ROSS SONG "SANCTIFIED," WHICH FEATURES BIG SEAN AND KANYE WEST, AND WAS ALSO PRODUCED BY KANYE AND DJ MUSTARD. THIRD, THIS IS LAUREN WRITING AND DEFINITELY NOT ERIC. REGARDLESS OF ALL THAT, THIS SONG IS DOPE AS FUCK AND I'VE BEEN LISTENING TO IT ALL WEEK EVEN THOUGH MY RELATIONSHIP WITH RICK ROSS HAS GONE INTO QUESTION SINCE HE PROVED

HE CAN'T HANDLE ANSWERING HARD QUESTIONS

. BUT HEY MAN IT'S COOL BECAUSE KANYE TALKS ABOUT BEING AGGRESSIVE WHICH I KIND OF AM ON TWITTER SO IT FITS MY BRAND. BUT LIKE ON THE REAL TBQH THIS SONG WOULD BE WAY BETTER IF IT HAD NICKI MINAJ ON IT. ANYWAY, THAT'S IT. PEACE OUT, BITCHES.

Dave Matthews Band - "Ants Marching"

Yo, bro, what up. I'm Drew and I'm from North Carolina. I like sweatpants and rap music. I like hanging out in the sunshine with my bros, drinking Bud Light Platinums like the day will never end. I like eating barbecue and getting sauce in my hair. But you know what I love more than all of that? Dave. Fucking. Matthews. Seriously, you ever just chill out, smoke some weed, and listen to Dave? (Real fans call DMB "Dave," by the way.) He just gets it, bro. He fucking gets it. In this song in particular, he really goes for it. Listen closely. The ants are kind of like humans, and the marching is kind of like the daily grind of our work. And it's endless, you know? But hey man, it's okay. Everything is cool because we always have our bros. For real. We. Always. Have. Our. Bros.

Tool - "Schism (Lustmord Remix)"
Filthy synths, a melodic female vocalist and…wait for it…an epic bass drop? Yup, it's Friday. Bros and hoes alike will have no problem getting absolutely shithoused to this dancefloor crusher, the perfect soundtrack for booze, sex, partying, and everything else that's awesome. Turn the fuck up!

Girls' Generation - "Gee"
Listening to new music is low key very overrated. It's exhausting to power through an album just to force an opinion simply for the sake of being the first to do so. This week, everyone in hip-hop music either officially released or streamed their album, to which I say "fuck you, I'm busy". Here's an amazing piece of art that hasn't been created by Schoolboy Q, Rick Ross or Pharrell. No disrespect to those guys, all disrespect to people not fucking with Girls' Generation.
