Warpaint's Emily Kokal Remixes Sister Crayon's "Devoted"

Featuring pitchshifted vocals that murmur and coalesce like ghosts trapped in the basement, desperate to communicate.

Emily Kokal from Warpaint has spent some time remixing and sprinkling her melancholic magic dust all over Sister Crayon's "Devoted." Lifted from SC's album of the same name, the original is a much more clipped—full of skittering hi-hats and stuttering canned beats. A bold and glowering kind of synth-pop, Kokal's rework pulls everything back—swaddled the vocals, added guitar ripples as delicate as someone's fingers running down your spine, while pitchshifted vocals murmur and coalesce like ghosts trapped in the basement, desperate to communicate.

It's gorgeous.

How did Kokal team up with Terra Lopez and Dani Fernandez of Sister Crayon? Well they've been buddies ever since Manimal Records released a split 7 inch with Warpaint and Sister Crayon back in 2010. Plus the Warpaint girls are also pals with Sister Crayon's producer Omar Rodriguez Lopez from Mars Volta/At The Drive-In. One big arty-awesome family.

Listen to the premiere of the remix below.

This track is lifted from Sister Crayon's remix EP out this fall.
