Chavis Chandler is a rapper from the East 7 Mile area of Detroit who's built a name performing locally and gained recognition as part of Danny Brown's Bruiser Brigade. And he does not have time for any motherfucking downers out here because he is too busy absolutely glorious. Consider the incredible title for his most recent mixtape, Dark Skin Jermaine And The Legend Of The Leather Britches. And consider the killer energy of his video for "Champion," with its counterpoint of the backup crew of dudes just nodding. But mostly consider Chavis's lyrics, which are tangled and full of punchlines and include one of the more eloquent death threats I've heard in a while: "vintage polo on it's floral/don't lose your fucking morals/you'll be on the bottom of the sea kissing on coral."
