PREMIERE: Fascinator's Video for "Time to Go" Is a Lesson Worth Learning

Know when to hold on, know when to walk the fuck away.

In one of my past relationships I was known as the koala because of my never-ending desire to cuddle, so I totally identify with this lady in the video (although blue lipstick doesn't really work with my skintone) and the way she tenaciously clings to this torso. But you know what? As the title suggests—there's a time to let go and a time to walk the fuck away. This song makes me want to smoke Galouises and scowl and cinch my trench and turn on my heel and strut off into the sunset. It also makes me want to spin Ride's "Leave Them All Behind." Sonically "Time to Go" is a slow, sensual kind of indie-psych-pop which should find favor with fans of Tame Impala and Tempesst. Those organs really lend this tune a forlorn grandiosity.

As for Fascinator, the man behind the name is one Johnny Mackay, born in Australia and based in New York. For his debut album, out this week, he roped in Darren Seltmann for co-production duties (a founding member of Avalanches. Come back Avalanches!), which is a pretty sweet move.

What's the takeaway here? Keep your ears tuned to this guy and much like gremlins, never get a koala wet. Hell hath no fury like a wet koala.

Fascinator's debut album, Man, is out 1.29 via Spinning Top Records.

Kim Taylor Bennett is a slowly drying koala and she's on Twitter.
