Day 258: "Dem Boyz" feat. Lil Wayne and Scarface – Willie D, Loved by Few, Hated by Many, 2000

Speaking of lost turn-of-the-millennium Lil Wayne features, did you know that he dropped in Willie D's return to Rap-A-Lot in 2000, alongside Scarface? I didn't, but I do now. It's a pretty workmanlike verse from Wayne, but it gets right to the point:

Rap-A-Lot was undoubtedly key to the development of Cash Money, as their success as an independent record label from the South helped direct Master P's own vision for No Limit Records, which in turn inspired Baby and Slim. Ironically, according to Scarface, J. Prince's own attempts to emulate No Limit were what ultimately held back the label's ability to release albums with staying power. The bottom line, though, is that Lil Wayne was definitely listening to music from both labels as he developed his own sound.

In the final chapter to this story, J. Prince sort of connected Drake to Young Money, so although Cash Money took the lane that No Limit took from Rap-A-Lot, in the end, everyone was really more or less driving down the same highway, and somehow Birdman has managed to screw over everyone involved. One exit on that highway was this song, which may be a footnote to the whole saga but nonetheless is a great thing to listen to for the sake of posterity. Also there's a sex jam with Pimp C on this album where he talks about filming sex tapes in his jacuzzi and where Willie D's cousin Nay Nay talks about eating ass, but that's neither here nor there.
