Artist Josh Graham's New Retrospective Will Feature Visuals from Drake, Jay-Z, Neurosis, and More

Even if you're not familiar with Josh Graham's name (yet), you've probably already come across his sumptuously-rendered works of multimedia art onstage or online. He's created live visuals for Drake, Neurosis, Jay-Z, Soundgarden, made music videos for The Dillinger Escape Plan, Eyehategod, and Isis, and has toured the world with his own band, A Storm of Light, handling vocals, guitar and, of course, visuals.
He's enjoyed a lot of success working with mainstream artists, but his metal credentials are unfuckwithable, too, from the time he's spent with his own bandmates to his tenure playing with Red Sparowes, Blood & Time, and Battle of Mice. He spent all of 2002-2012 handling visuals for Neurosis, and has created artwork for everyone from Noothgrush and Isis to Shrinebuilder, Nadja, and Soundgarden. Currently, he serves as Soundgarden's creative director. Suffice it to say, dude is crazy talented, and crazy busy, but somehow had time to put together a massive new career retrospective, too.
As part of the First Thursday Art Walks in DUMBO, the Made in NY Media Center by IFP will host “Josh Graham: Standard Model Catastrophes," a sprawling retrospective of Graham’s decade-long career as one of the premier multimedia artists in the music game. The retrospective itself will take the form of a twenty-seven screen video installation, and will be augmented by Watchmaker, a 360 degree, twenty ft. video installation synchronized and edited to "Still Life" by Gazelle Twin that focuses on the "strange and surreal beauty" of nuclear weapons, and on what "the last 'minutes to midnight' might look like."
The event will take place on 12/4 and run from 6PM-9PM; yes, there will be free wine (and beer) for thirsty art aficionados.

Josh on the idea behind the show:
"Tom approached me for the show, and the idea of making a 120 ft long custom piece was very intriguing, in addition to the full theatrical screening room, and 27 full HD monitor installation. I’ve never been able to show this work all together, so it’s a great experience. I am psyched to see some of this material on the big screen."
On his relationship with Soundgarden:
"I’ve been working closely with Soundgarden over the last 4 years, which has been an amazing progression of creative work and friendships over that time. They are great guys and everyone that surrounds them is straight forward and hard working. Kim and I usually focus on the larger creative approaches, and once we have a solid vision, we present it to the rest of the band."
On working with hip hop superstars:
"Working on productions like Jay-Z and Drake is a LOT of (awesome) work. In experiences, delivering the visuals typically culminates in several 20 hour work days on-site at the rehearsals, or even while the tour is happening. My personal interaction with the artists is more about approval or changes, which is a much more of a business relationship."
