Narrows and Retox Cover the Hardcore Spectrum on Their Split Seven-Inch

Fast, spastic assaults and slow, guttural burners.

In the wide gamut that is hardcore, there are many degrees of subtlety. From grind to moshcore to powerviolence, there are all kinds of ways to suit your need for hearing people yell at you as loudly as possible. Retox and Narrows do a pretty good job of covering the spectrum on their new split seven-inch.

One one side, the Justin Pearson-fronted Retox (who once let us follow them around LA with some cameras) are spastically fast, getting mathy and cramming all kinds of schizo assaults into just 80 seconds on their song “This Should Hurt a Little Bit.” Flip it over and you’ve got Narrows, featuring members of bands like Botch and These Arms Are Snakes. They pound out a slower, more guttural burner on “Ride the Lion.” You can listen to both below.

Retox also kick in a cover of the Cure’s “Fascination Street” and Narrows have a badassedly titled song called “Blood Python.” The record is out on December 2 via Three One G and you can pre-order it right here.
