Let Loyal Duce and FameSchool Telli's "Finesse" Video Finesse You into Liking Them

Loyal Duce and Fame School show what hip-hop in Bed-Stuy looks like in 2015.

In the hip-hop universe, Brooklyn's Bed-Stuy neighborhood is basically synonymous with the late Notorious B.I.G. Birthing and nurturing one of the most influential artists in American history is a cool thing to be known for. But I feel like Bed-Stuy will never shake that distinction, especially given how rapidly the neighborhood is gentrifying (because gentrifiers love Biggie). And that’s unfortunate because Ready to Die was two decades ago. A lot’s happened since then.

For a look at rap-minded Bed-Stuy in the modern era, check out Loyal Duce’s video for “Finesse.” If “walking through a bodega in a lot of streetwear” doesn’t scream Brooklyn, “pouring thot juice out the can on a white girl” definitely does. It’s the best kind of rap video: a big-ass squad mobbing through assorted locales, partying with some notably hot women in tow, and standing up in a very clean, slow-moving sports car.

This track is great: The sing-song chorus is catchy as fuck, and the beat is clean and weird in a very appealing way. Duce runs with Manolo Rose’s Fame School crew, whose continued thrive following the success of local hit “Run Ricky Run” has been a pleasant surprise. They’ve apparently linked up with Brooklyn uber-tastemakers Fool’s Gold, too, so hopefully their run will continue. Need convincing? Let Loyal Duce finesse your support below:
