Staff Picks and Good Shit for the Week of March 20

Everyone was at SXSW this week so staff picks got a little weird.

This was a weird week at Noisey. Everyone was at SXSW except for two of us, who were here in New York and saw The Menzingers twice. So, being that most of the editorial staff is walking around Austin brandegizing and strategerjecting outside the box, two of us filled in and wrote the rest of the staff picks this week on their behalf. See if you can figure out who!

The Menzingers - "Straight to Hell"

I, Kim Taylor Bennett, a.k.a. TheKTB, love The Menzingers and definitely did not once call them the “emo Rancid.” Speaking of my extensive and deep knowledge of punk, and being from England as I like to pretend I am, I also know about the English band, The Clash. So here are The Menzingers, a very good band in my (Kim's) opinion, covering The Clash.

The Menzingers - "My Friend Kyle"

Hey, it’s me, Kyle “Cosmo” Kramer, coming at you from SXSW. I took a plane with Nick Lachey here and you know what I had bumping in my iPod high quality stereo ear buds? The Menzingers, baby! Particularly this song, “My Friend Kyle,” which I like because my name (Kyle) is right there in title. So this one goes out to all the real Kyle Heads out there looking for some good tunes today. Listen to The Menzingers, don’t be a real Left Shark.

The Menzingers - "I Don't Wanna Be an Asshole Anymore"

Fred Pessaro here, also at SXSW, checking out new music, looking for The Next Hot Buzz Band. So far, no one has impressed me as much as The Menzingers do. Goddang, I know everyone loves Impossible Past, but Rented World is quickly becoming my favorite. And geez louise what an opener! Best new music. Bummed I missed them in New York this week.

The Menzingers - "Time Tables"

Being Canadian, as I am, I’m very clever. And love humour. With a "u." I love inside jokes. So naturally, I, Slava, love the Bad Religion references that The Menzingers stick in this song, eh? And personally, if they’re asking me to make the choice between No Control or Suffer, I obviously gotta go with Suffer. That album is what I’m all about. (Pronounced “aboot,” real Canadian-like.)

The Menzingers - "Obituaries"

I’m not at SXSW but I am in the van on the road. And I can’t wait to get back to Brooklyn. Speaking of, here is an amazing Menzingers song about Brooklyn. I, noted metal writer Kim Kelly, love abrasive pop punk, let me tell you. That’s a very real opinion I have. Love to throw up my \m/etal horns and sing “I will fuck this up! I fucking know it!” Plus, Obituary is the name of a metal band and I love metal.

The Menzingers - "In Remission"

Hey guys, Eric Sundermann here! I'm in Brooklyn, not at SXSW, and traveling to Philadelphia this weekend. Naturally, I'm prepping by only listening to The Menzingers, who are a really, really good band from the sixth borough. Here's "In Remission," which we premiered on Noisey last year because our taste is awesome. It's a great song about being heartbroken and dealing with it by screaming "OH YEAH" over and over again. The Menzingers rule! Other music drools!

The Menzingers - "Casey"

Hello it’s me, Annalise Domenighini. I am not at SXSW and I don’t work for Noisey but I am filling in for someone who does (because they are at SXSW) so that means today my opinion matters. Which is good because my opinions are good. “Casey” is a good song because I, too, used to get drunk before I did the dishes (full disclosure, I still do). Listen to it and let it remind you of a better time. Annalise Domenighini, Social Producer

The Menzingers - "Mexican Guitars"

It's me, Emo Boy Number One Dan Ozzi over here. This is an amazing Menzingers song about friendship that really hits home for me, having so many friends and being the very notable influencer™ that I am. You never know who's gonna make an appearance on my Instagram feed. Close personal friend Frank Turner, maybe? Or maybe even one of The Menzingers! More self-aware humor goes here!
