Scrapbook: See Your Favorite Artists' Childhood Costumes

If you're short on costume inspiration this year, just look to musicians. They not only do the holiday better than anyone else (see: Diddy's Prince, Drake's Borat, Rihanna's weed fairy), they're fun as hell to dress up as. So we put together a special #tbt Halloween edition of Scrapbook. Tei Shi: "I had this squirrel costume from a ballet performance when I was like 5 or 6 in Colombia—I was OBSESSED with it and made my mom let me use it for like three years in a row as my Halloween costume. I still have it somewhere in a box. Dressing up was one of my all time favorite things as a kid and I used to do it all the time, this picture may not have even been on Halloween actually… I also collected squirrel-themed things throughout my childhood, so this one costume was really special and a big part of my childhood!"

We Are Scientists: "This is a digital mockup of the costumes we're planning to unveil later this week. Our actual costumes are going to be made from shredded newsprint (Chewie) and a store-bought Aladdin costume for five to six-year-olds (Han).

Chris Farren: "Here are some photos of me as a young child. The first one I'm an ORC from Warcraft, the second I'm the Grim Reaper—which I actually won FIRST PLACE in a school-wide costume contest. The prize was a weekend stay for my family at a the local Holiday Inn, which at the time seemed like the coolest thing in the world for some reason. Third is me dressed BLANKA from Street Fighter pointing at myself in a very "LOOK AT ME" way, which is a personality trait I have carried with me through the years. And finally I'm me dressed as an old lady and I don't think it's from Halloween."

Jonathan: "Hey I'm eating in Barcelona so have to be brief. Here I am dressed as Anton LaVey [founder of the Church of Satan]. It was a killer outfit and I look a lot like him. The funny story behind it is that at Secret Project Robot, Glasslands, and all of the places back then they never let me hang out near the door at my own parties because everybody would ask me to sneak them in and I obliged. But that night I hung out near the door all night and nobody recognized me…"

Matt Hitt: "I went to a party in Greenpoint dressed as Peter Pan in 2010. The party was a lot cooler than my costume was so I felt like a tit all evening."

Jack Hamson (drums): "I bought this costume at a Wal-Mart in 2012 but it remained box fresh cause hurricane Sandy cancelled all the New York Halloween fun I'd planned to have. Luckily though I got a chance to bust it out in all its creased glory on a horrific 14hr North Sea ferry journey home from a Thumpers tour in Norway last year. Still toooottttalllly within its sell by date."

Emmy: "Last Halloween me and my brother Robin thought it would be funny to dress as the Jonas Brothers with our friend Dan, because both Robin and Dan look a bit like the Jonas Brothers. What in fact happened is Dan didn’t show up, my brother looked like a cross between himself and a douchebag banker, and I looked like a Target version of that episode of Sex and the City where Charlotte dresses as a man. Worst Halloween costume ever, especially compared to this expert Cosplay couple I caught breaking up with each other that night at Subway (lol at all of King Krule buying sandwiches in the background).

Chela: "Frida Kahlo is one of my heros, I remember watching Frida when I was 15 and feeling like I could relate to so many things she faced and felt in her life. I haven't owned or worn dresses or skirts for many years but I took my Aunty Margaret's old skirt out of a box somewhere to put this outfit together. It felt so good paying tribute to Frida on this night. I even went to a party and did a sensual tango with my galpal to relive 'that scene' from Frida. It was magic."
