Is Aminé's "Wedding Crashers" a Late 'Song of the Summer'?

The bright, sunny bop also features Offset.

There are a number of things that a song must have to be a 'Song of the Summer':

  • the song must be a bop;
  • the song must sound bright and open;
  • the song must have a 'fun chorus';
  • the song must make you feel very strongly like you want to ride in an open top car immediately;
  • the song must be suitable to be played at a barbecue or cookout of some kind.

As you can see, Song of the Summer criteria, as detailed above, is fairly abstract. It is a lot about a feeling, a vibe if you will, rather than a particularly specific sound. And I am happy to say that we have another late Song of the Summer contender in Aminé's "Wedding Crashers," which seems to meet all of the above. The Portland rapper has had a strong 2017 so far (see: his much-hyped song "Caroline" and the fact that he got Missy Elliot on his remix), and this track comes ahead of the release of his debut album Good For You next Friday (28 July), and features Offset, because is a song really even a song in 2017 if there isn't a Migo on it somewhere?

"Wedding Crashers" is bouncy and "summery" in the sense that it sounds like it could be played in the background of a TV montage featuring beautiful people riding inflatables in a swimming pool and Having a Great Summer Time, and the hook is a kiss off-themed earworm. I'd invite all of you who have already decided that the song of the summer is Calvin Harris' "Slide" feat. Frank Ocean and Migos (see?) to give hear this track (below), and tell me it doesn't at least offer stiff competition.
