He was basically made for this.

Some partnerships can only be described as perfect: strawberries and cream, John Legend and Chrissy Teigen, Ricky Martin and Christina Aguilera. All un-fuck-with-able, you'll agree. And today we've been gifted with another one of these seemingly heavenly-ordained unions, in the shape of the news that Panic! At The Disco singer Brendon Urie will strap on his best stilettos for a turn in the Broadway musical Kinky Boots this summer, from 26 May until 6 August.

Urie will play the show's lead role of Charlie Price, a down-on-his-luck shoemaker who turns his factory's fortunes around after meeting a drag queen called Lola. Lola encourages Charlie to make boots for the niche but in-need drag market, and sales soar. Oh, and it's all set to music written by Cyndi Lauper. And isn't that, really, the American dream?

This casting news is, obviously, very exciting (unless you're a P!ATD fan who hates musicals, in which case – why and how?), considering that Urie, with his perfect, stage-ready enunciation and expressive persona, has long been a perfect candidate for a musical theatre role. He's been edging in this direction for years. Hopefully this means that all your campy emo faves of yore are making their well-earned breakout into musicals: next we'll finally get the Phantom of the Opera we all deserve, in HRH Gerard Way.
