Here’s Randy Newman Playing a Pun-Filled Song About Vladimir Putin on ‘Colbert’

"He drives the ladies crazy / When he takes his shirt off / Makes me wanna be a lady / It's the Putin Girls."

For those of us who don't keep up with national treasure and Toy Story soundtracker Randy Newman, the news that the 73-year-old had written a song called "Putin" came as something of a surprise. Sadly, there was no time to digest the news at the time, what with Newman telling Vulture that he'd written a song about Donald Trump's penis. The lyrics to the chorus, apparently, are simple: "What a dick!" Even writing that, I've already forgotten about the Putin song.

In good news for everyone, however, Newman was the musical guest on last night's 'Colbert' and he took his satirical track on the Russian premiere with him. Sat at a piano while heroic photos of the former-KGB agent moved across a screen behind him. "He can drive his giant tractor / Across the Trans-Siberian plain / He can power a nuclear reactor / With the left side of his brain," he talk-sang as the audience laughed a little nervously. "He drives the ladies crazy / When he takes his shirt off / Makes me wanna be a lady / It's the Putin Girls."

Watch the performance in full at the top of the page, and marvel at a man who can say, "What if the Kurds got in the way? / Hey, Kurds and way / Curds and whey" on national television without flinching.
