The tracks that have crept out of the 7-Inches for Planned Parenthood series in the last few months—CHVRCHES's beautiful live studio version of "Down Side of Me," Estelle's strut through "Woman's World," and holy shit this new Sleater-Kinney song—have all been individually brilliant. It's actually worth going back to the CHVRCHES track right now, firstly because it's the most compelling proof that Lauren Mayberry's voice is uniquely and effortlessly graceful and, secondly, because the Kristen Stewart-directed video that came with the song was a surprising treat.Or just spend your morning listening to the 30-track compilation that 7-Inches for Planned Parenthood released this morning to draw the project to a close. It's a weird listen if you do it in order—there are a couple of Margaret Atwood readings and some comedy sketches from Tig Notaro, Zach Galifianakis, Sarah Silverman, and Margaret Cho dotted about the place—but there are some great standalone songs too.Mitski covers Frank Sinatra's "I'm a Fool to Want You," for example. It's eerie and fragile at first with layers of barely agreeable synths vibrating above the singer's lullaby delivery. But it eases into harmony at the second line of the chorus and relieves all the pressure. It means that Mitski has released two songs this year—a Frank Sinatra cover and a One Direction Cover.There's also a lovely folk song, "Passion and Love," from Sharon Van Etten, who has been quiet since releasing I Don't Want to Let You Down in 2015. Bon Iver contributes a nicely woozy live version of "_____45_____" from Philharmonie de Paris. Foo Fighters take a step back from the pacey classic rock that they've been trudging through recently with a more brooding new song, "Soldier," that could've been an outtake from The Color and the Shape.So, now that every single song is out on one 30-track compilation, I will say for the last time that 7-Inches for Planned Parenthood is a great name, and whoever pitched is ought to get a promotion of some sort.
