Day 86: "I Made It (Cash Money Heroes)" – Kevin Rudolf feat. Jay Sean, Birdman, and Lil Wayne, To the Sky , 2010Continuing the week of talking about Lil Wayne's chart hits, I would like to disprove something I said on Monday, which is that Wayne having over a hundred Hot 100 entries means that there are literally a hundred songs that are more well known than his mixtape freestyles. While this statement might be true by some standard of faux-objectivity, obviously it is not true by the more rigorous standard of Songs I Have Actually Heard. Exhibit A: Whatever this is.In 2010, Lil Wayne was consumed with the idea of being a rock star to the point that he literally released a "rock" album called Rebirth, and the idea swept across the rest of Cash Money's business model as well. A staple feature on the label's songs and hip-hop blogs at the time was a guy named Kevin Rudolf, who I know nothing about and have not spent a moment of this blog post composition process researching. Let me spout off about him regardless. The relevant facts about Kevin Rudolf were: He owned a guitar, and, in Birdman's eyes at least, he represented rock 'n' fuckin' roll, man. Anyway, I know Kevin Rudolf was around, although I could not name a single song of his.Apparently I am an anomaly! His hit song "I Made It (Cash Money Heroes)," contained herein, went platinum and ascended as high as number 21 on the Hot 100. It features our good friend Jay Sean, who we also discussed on Monday and who probably suffered the indignity of making dozens of songs like this during his time at Cash Money. It sucks enormous ass, but, on the other hand, it is a song. It also has a reasonably fun Birdman verse and a reasonably fun Lil Wayne verse. Wayne raps "Weezy stay loyal / boy we gettin money like we just found oil," which is something that I might repeat someday were I ever to listen to this song again.
