Listen to Jason Isbell & The 400 Unit's 'The Nashville Sound' Now

The artist-defined "rock 'n' roll" album, out June 16, packs a political punch

Two years after releasing Something More Than Free, Jason Isbell is changing his tune. Moving away from his award-winning Americana sound, Isbell and The 400 Unit bring harder riffs and bigger calls to action on The Nashville Sound. While listeners will notice this album packs a more political punch than his previous ones—songs like "White Mans World" and "Hope the High Road" especially—fans will notice these aren't new positions for the songwriter, who is politically outspoken on social media and not one to shy away from an argument. Isbell's trademark sad songs still abound on the album in cuts like "Last of My Kind"and "If We Were Vampires." Stream the album here via NPR. The Nashville Sound is out June 16 on Southeastern records.
