Laura Jane Grace Talks About Her Book and Being a Trans Parent on 'The Daily Show'

"For kids, all they want to know is that you love them, that you're gonna be there."

Laura Jane Grace was on The Daily Show with Trevor Noah last night to discuss her book TRANNY: Confessions of Punk Rock's Most Infamous Anarchist Sellout, which she co-wrote with Noisey editor Dan Ozzi. Aside from the truly surreal discussion wherein Trevor Noah tries to wrap his head around the absurdity of punk politics (good luck, man), the two also talked about the situational awkwardness of being misgendered, the provocative title of her book, and being a trans parent. Grace, who brought her seven year old daughter Evelyn to the show (and who availed herself of the candy and dogs in the green room), got a big round of applause when she put it simply: "For kids, all they want to know is that you love them, that you're gonna be there." Seriously.

Watch the clip below. Grace was also on Late Night with Seth Meyers last year. Read about the creation of TRANNY on Noisey, and buy a copy of the book. Or, if you find yourself near the Noisey desk, steal one from Dan Ozzi's desk if you think you can take him in a fight.
