Lana Del Rey Mourns for America on "Coachella - Woodstock in My Mind"

At last, an extended, studio-version of that track she made up in the woods last month.

All-American wood nymph Lana Del Rey last crossed the hallowed pages of Noisey dot vice dot com when she posted an Instagram video of herself singing a little ditty she wrote after attending Coachella. That short, dreamy chorus has now evolved into a longer, dreamier song called "Coachella - Woodstock in My Mind," which you can hear above.

On it, Lana invokes the legendary music festival Woodstock as she's been wont to do with lots of other Americana-type imagery across her oeuvre. Very thoughtfully, she considers her own position, and the escapism from the state of the world that the walled off Coachella environment provides:

I guess I was in it
'Cause baby, for a minute
It was Woodstock in my mind
In the next morning
They put out the warning
Tensions were rising over country lines
I turned off the music
Tried to sit and use it
All of the love that I saw that night

'Cause what about all these children
And what about all their parents
And what about about all their crowns they wear
In hair so long like mine
And what about all their wishes
Wrapped up like garland roses
Round their little heads
I said a prayer for a third time

As someone who frequently sings about America, it's not surprising that the political landscape would spur Lana into musical action. This new track, with its dense production and signature loose, floating vocals, kind of forces us to ask: Will Lana's upcoming album Lust for Life be her most political to date? After this, I actually kind of hope so.
