Cobra Man’s New Album Is Like Devo Soundtracking An Old 'Thrasher' Video

Listen to a track from the Los Angeles duo's album that is coming out on Goner Records.

A few years ago, after being laid off from his position at meal replacement company Soylent, Andrew Harris found himself at a loose end. Luckily his buddies at The Worble skate collective were looking for someone to write music for Manramp, their new video about a human skate ramp. After Harris enlisted the help of his friend Sarah Rayne who had played in LA band Babes, Cobra Manwas born.

The duo's synthy and shouty music perfectly encapsulated the wild energy of a man who lives his life as a functioning skate ramp.

Both Cobra Man and the Manramp featured again on New Driveway, a DVD that the Worble released earlier this year and now, as well as announcing them on their annual Goner Fest, Memphis label Goner Records are set to release the debut Cobra Man album.

A strong 80s aesthetic and sound are found on album tracks like "Weekend Special" (that you can listen to below) and Harris says that besides the music, the best things about the wild 80s LA scene was that nobody had social media to show us all how shitty they were.

'New Driveway' is available Sep 8 on Goner Records.
