The Award for Best Drug-Dealing Line on 'Tha Carter' Goes To...

“I wasn’t born with no silver spoon / but I can heat it in a spoon and pitch it in a balloon.”

Day 277: "Who Wanna" – Tha Carter, 2004

This may be the best drug dealing line on Tha Carter, which, after all, is loosely a concept album about a drug-dealing gang: "I wasn't born with no silver spoon / but I can heat it in a spoon and pitch it in a balloon."

"Who Wanna" is quintessential Cash Money (produced by Raj Smoove), and Wayne delivers on the promise of the beat by rapping some of his most acrobatic internal rhymes. The highlight is the "silver spoon" line, but the honorable mention goes to this Sqad Up shout out: "Get slick, Slick, I click click blast on yo' bitch ass / Sqad Up shit, clicka smash on yo' bitch ass."

And a special commendation is in order for Wayne's moment of commemorating Run-DMC. Jam Master Jay passed away roughly two years before this album was released, so this counts as a topical reference, as well as one that offers a reminder Wayne is always more steeped in hip-hop history than people give him credit for. It goes, "Didn't know Jam Master well but I rock with my shells on / and the block still a hell zone."
