Wow. One minute you're answering emails and trying to hide your insidious hangover from your boss, next thing you know you're in love. In love with a beat. With a look. With a line that goes "Wear it out like a sweater that you love / 'cause I can't get enough of you." Life is weird like that. Bam! Hits you like a freight train.Guess what? I'm talking about myself. In about as close to real time as you can get in this business. And I'm also incidentally talking about Tove Styrke and her song "Say My Name," a bouncing, offbeat pop single—the first since her 2015 album Kiddo, which is by all accounts, nothing like this song. A song that is about one month old and yet, somehow, has only 500k views on the old YouTube. A bit low, considering it's the best song ever made by a person…On "Say My Name," Styrke—who got her start on Swedish Idol as a teenager back in 2009—has practically bottled warm weather and lust for life. She's bottle sex. She's bottled having a crush. She's bloody well managed to bottle how it feels to be a full, feeling human being.I am obsessed, suddenly feeling an unstoppable urge to wear some very questionable ski garms. The crazy thing is that you think you're not going to like it. That ukulele riff throws you off. Then there's that pre-chorus thing and you're like, "fuck this." And then? It's like oxygen. You're nothing without it. "Wear it out like a sweater that you love" starts to feel like a very very good drug that you've just gotta keep micro-dosing so you can continue your life in this headspace forever and ever.Are you ready? You are. Good luck out there. I'm approximately an hour ahead of you and it's really good where I am. It's luscious and pretty and slightly arousing out here.
