Cloud Nothings Embrace Something Softer, Give “Enter Entirely” a Super 8 Video

The clip is directed by Emeralds' John Elliot with assistance from Ryan Manning.

Cloud Nothings' fourth studio album, Life Without Sound, was their most considered yet. Dylan Baldi wrote the lyrics in advance this time, rather than scribbling them down the day that he had to record the vocals, so we were dealing with his conscience rather than his subconscious; he sang through depression and regret instead of all-consuming apathy or nihilism. It's a more actively reflective effort than 2012's Attack On Memory or 2014's Here And Nowhere Else.

While it would be a push to say that Life Without Sound had any in-built nostalgia, the new Super 8 video for "Enter Entirely," released this morning, is fitting. Directed by Emeralds' John Elliot with an assist from frequent Cloud Nothings collaborator Ryan Manning, it's a softly-lit collection of decomposing images, falling apart just as Baldi falls apart on the track, "out on a limb," "disintegrating," "watching all of the hours with a bottle of wine."
