Listen to Lil Wayne and Kurupt Once Daily to Improve Your Character

"Lock and Load" is the stealth hit on 'Tha Carter II.'

Day 320: "Lock and Load" feat. Kurupt – Tha Carter II, 2005

"Lock and Load" is the stealth hit on Tha Carter II. Kurupt's feature provides a tasteful nod to the West Coast and, more importantly, a maddeningly sticky hook. If Tha Carter II is a success because of how cool it made Lil Wayne sound, then surely some of the credit lies with the supremely untroubled confidence of "Lock and Load." This is one of my favorite songs on the album. It may get overlooked in the history books, but it's one of the easiest Carter II tracks to sit back and just enjoy—for both its rapping and its attitude.

"Fresh out the back seat of the phiggity Phantom / the haters I make 'em madder when I wave at 'em / like 'what up!'" Wayne raps here, cheerily. He has lots of thoughts for his haters. There's also, "yep, we do shine and they gon' hate / but they hated Jesus, baby, we won't break." And then, of course, there's the hook itself. Need to boost your confidence? Listen to this. Need to improve your character? Listen to this. Need to remind yourself that you deserve to be on top of the world? Listen to this. Need to feel certain that you're not spending enough on jeans? You could also listen to this, where Lil Wayne will tell you about, over the course of the song: his Evisu jeans, his $1200 jeans that hold his $100 gun, and his $300 Dolce and Gabbana wristband—don't even get him started on the cost of the jeans.
