It was about this time last year that a shy kid named Christopher Gallant was talking himself out of stage fright ahead of his SXSW debut. How much a year can change. Since then, the LA R&B singer-songwriter earned himself a Noisey Next slot ahead of his debut Ology, going on to rile up crowds at the Mnet Asian Music Awards and a headlining show in Seoul before landing a nomination at next month's Grammy's awards.Now Gallant's back with his first output of 2017, a sweetly throwback seduction jam called "Cave Me In," featuring South Korean stars Tablo and Eric Nam, whom Gallant met at Mnet. The track sees Gallant trading the mercurial, often wrenching vocals of his debut for a more seductive delivery that would feel restrained if it weren't so damn smooth. Beneath that croon is the same quietly raw songwriting that distinguished Ology from the alt-R&B wave, chock full of understated pleas that can't help but beckon you in.The track's video sees the trio roaming the empty moonlit streets of Hong Kong in search of—what else?—a beautiful woman, trading verses between closeup shots and panning skylines.
