Pet Symmetry's Dads Play Their Sons 27 Years in the Future in New Video

Take a trip into the future in "Stare Collection."

Pet Symmetry is a band that thrives on inside jokes. From the band's name, to their matching shirts and letterman jackets, all the way down to poking fun at their thick-framed glasses with their second album's title, Vision, if there's a joke to be had, you better believe it's at Pet Symmetry's expense. And while that's plenty charming, the fact the band can turn in songs that settle into a space somewhere between Superchunk and Piebald proves that they can make serious music without being all stuck-up about it. In the video for "Stare Collection," the band takes their dad jokes to the logical endpoint by inviting their actual dads to stand in for them, going as far as flying two of them from the East Coast to Chicago to make sure the whole thing went off without a hitch.

Taking place in a fictionalized future where the band broke-up 27 years ago due to drummer Marcus Nuccio (Tony Nuccio) discovering his love for baking cupcakes and bassist-vocalist Evan Weiss (Thomas Weiss) destroying them at every turn, this distant future sees all that be put aside for one more jam together. Thanks to the the levelheaded Erik Czaja (John Czaja), the band gets some goofing off in before heading to their rehearsal space to see if they've still got the bespectacled magic of their younger selves.

Directed and shot by Sean Kelly and Remsy Atassi at Emulsion, "Stare Collection" shows what a future Pet Symmetry reunion might look like, one where the members are a little older and a touch wiser, yet they still get their kicks from the simpler pleasures, like a rich, gooey cupcake or an expertly timed punchline. Vision is out now on Polyvinyl Records, and you can check out the band's tour dates below, which sees the band out with Beach Slang, The Get Up Kids, and Minus The Bear at various points.
