Florence and the Machine Debut New Single "Hunger," Confirm New LP

The song is taken from the British indie band's fourth LP, 'High as Hope,' out June 29.

Florence and the Machine, the English indie band fronted by large-lunged vocalist Florence Welch, have followed up April's stripped-down and plaintive "Sky Full of Song" with another new single. "Hunger" is the second single from the band's newly confirmed fourth LP, High as Hope, out June 29 on Republic. The song is theatrical and stirring in the way that most Florence and the Machine songs tend to be, with lush strings and and open-chord piano backing up Welch's big, dextrous voice. It comes with an appropriately drama-laden video, directed by A.G. Rojas, which you can watch at the top of the page.

“This song is about the ways we look for love in things that are perhaps not love, and how attempts to feel less alone can sometimes isolate us more,” Welch said in a statement. “I guess I made myself more vulnerable in this song to encourage connection, because perhaps a lot more of us feel this way than we are able to admit. Sometimes when you can’t say it, you can sing it.”

Welch wrote every song on High as Hope, and she co-produced the record alongside Emile Haynie (Bruno Mars, Lana Del Rey, Dua Lipa). It'll feature contributions from Kamasi Washington, Sampha, Tobias Jesso Jr., Kelsey Lu, and Jamie xx.
