Barack Obama Calls Jay Z a "True American Original" in a New Video

The 44th President praised Hov for his induction into the Songwriters Hall of Fame.

Jay Z hardly ever tweets. So when he does, it feels right to pay close attention to whatever he has to share, even if still doesn't know how to properly use the app. Last night the hip-hop legend took a few minutes to show respect to all the hip-hop artists who have inspired him over the years. He went from old school artists (KRS One, Kool G Rap, Rakim, etc.), to rappers of his generation (Wu Tang, The Lox, Lauryn Hill), to artists making their mark right now (Quavo, Travis Scott, Future). He also gave a nod to Tee Grizzley for having the best song out right now with "First Day Out."

Jay also shared a video message from Barack Obama that features 44th President of the United States introducing him as a new member of the Songwriters Hall of Fame. The Brooklyn native is the first rapper to receive such an honor and that accomplishment got even better with Obama's message.

In the video, the former President drew parallels between his and Hov's journeys: "We know what it's like not to have a father around. We know what it's like not to come from much and to know people that didn't get the same breaks that we did." Obama also bragged that he is certain that he's the only Commander in Chief to ever bump Jay in the Oval Office. He ended with a quote from Jay Z that touched him personally:

"I've never looked at myself and said that I need to be a certain way to be around a certain sort of people. I've always wanted to stay true to myself and I've managed to do that. People have to accept that."

It's a special moment from two very important men who have had a history of showing each other a lot of love.Watch the video below.
