A Year of Lil Wayne: The Big Tymers Had Some Big Tyme Thoughts on the Future of Cash Money Over the Weekend

Day 154: "Hate" feat. Lil Wayne, Birdman, and Juvenile – Mannie Fresh, single, 2016

Despite Birdman and Lil Wayne hosting dueling events over All-Star Weekend, it appears that it wasn't all acrimony in New Orleans over the past few days. Billboard snagged interviews backstage with Birdman and Mannie Fresh on Saturday after the two had a Big Tymers reunion, and Birdman suggested he was optimistic that he and Wayne would settle their differences soon. He promised that Tha Carter V would see a release this year and hinted that we might see Cash Money or even Young Money reunion tours.

"You will get it this year," Birdman told Billboard about Tha Carter V, despite the fact that he and Wayne are currently embroiled in a seemingly endless lawsuit. "Me and Wayne will be aight. I'ma make that work. That's my son and I love him, and we'll make it happen." He also said to expect a new Rich Gang album on April 14 and a new solo album called Ms. Gladys from him this year. And he spoke on his relationship with Mannie, too: "Me and Fresh been through a lot together. Our relationship bonded even stronger when his sister got killed and my sister got killed. Fresh put the Big Tymers tour together. I always had a brotherly relationship with Fresh and I'ma continue to have that."

For his part, Mannie added, "We had our disagreements on shit but real talk, New Orleans cats are like this—when something happens, we come together." He pointed out that he actually succeeded in bringing Wayne, Juvenile, and Birdman together on a track last year called "Hate." And he talked about recording recently with Wayne, saying that Wayne knocked out six songs in one session the last time they recorded together. To echo Mannie Fresh, it seems like he might be the secret link that can make things OK again in the Cash Money world, just as he always has been.

"Everybody thought I could be the one to bring 'em together and I proved that with 'Hate,'" he told Billboard. "So the project is just kinda making everybody leave [their] differences behind. I'm good at doing that, I've always been good at doing that so you'll see more stuff from me and that project." I believe in Mannie Fresh, and I believe in Cash Money, and I think there's a decent chance we will see things evolve with the New Orleans crew within the coming year.
