Day 201: "Crazy" – Da Drought 3, 2007Today, you can listen to famed producer Danger Mouse on Noisey Radio on Beats 1 (tune in at 9 PM EST). That event—combined with the fact that the song "Crazy" comes right after "Forever," the subject of Friday's post, on Da Drought 3—seems like as good a reason as any to mention that while Da Drought 3 is arguably Wayne's most classic project, it does have a few duds."Crazy" drifts from the subject of becoming interested in selling crack at age eight or nine to the subject of having sex that leaves the sheets sticky in just a few short, somewhat unfulfilling minutes. Nonetheless, it's a key part of the project, in my eyes, because it both shows Wayne's willingness to tackle any timely beat with aplomb (see also: him rapping over the Black Eyed Peas' "I've Got a Feeling") and it shows his eagerness, at this time, to escape from the limitations of skeletal southern rap beats and embrace more melody. That came in fits and starts, and this falls more on the side of failed experiments, but it's an interesting song nonetheless. And Gnarls Barkley slaps, baby!
