Superchunk's New Single with Waxahatchee and Stephin Merritt Effing Rules

"Erasure" is probably the closest you'll get to an alt-rock supergroup.

Late last year it was announced that indie rock's beloved Superchunk would be making a much-needed comeback in 2018, with a new album titled What a Time to Be Alive due on 16 February (via Merge, obvi.) They shared the title track, a reasonably lo-fi affair with a typically anthemic guitar line, along with that announcement, and today, they're back with another.

"Erasure" follows in a similar vein, though it's a little more downbeat, and also features a very fun pair of guest stars. If you think you're hearing familiar voices on the chorus, that's because you're hearing The Magnetic Fields' Stephin Merritt, and Katie Crutchfield of Waxahatchee (whose sister Allison's band Swearin' will play with Superchunk on their upcoming US tour, which is nice, isn't it?) in perfect harmony with Mac McCaughan. Hear it above and cherish it: this is the supergroup we actually want.
