Insult to Injury: Week Ending 1/24 Featuring Your Dad

Here's what the Noisey editors were listening to this week while they were busy telling you what to listen to.

Welcome to Insult to Injury, the place where the Noisey editors gather every week to discuss what they've been listening to. For this edition, we were joined by a very special guest: Your dad. Yes, the man who fathered you and calls you once in a while to give you life tips. (He also had some advice for Justin Bieber.)

Migos - "Chinatown"
In today's rapidly shifting business environment, having an international perspective that uses innovative solutions to cross borders is essential. That's why I gravitated toward this song my son Gabe was playing on his iPad, "Chinatown," by The Migos. The Migos are a trio of rap men in Atlanta who have parlayed their music into international success. For instance, their song "Versace" was used by the Italian fashion brand Versace in its runway show, just one more example of the way global communication that leverages cloud solutions and next-generation mindsets can achieve excellent synergistic #wins. In "Chinatown," The Migos travel to the primarily Chinese-American business district of the same name to discuss transactions. And they do it all on YouTube! Talk about something that wouldn't have been possible back in the past. That's the kind of innovation that today's business leaders should consider as they implement forward-thinking solutions. As business continues to evolve in the coming years, such examples of international collaboration will likely become commonplace. Is your organization prepared to follow The Migos and go to "Chinatown?" Let me know in the comments below!

Thin Lizzy - “Jailbreak”

Two days ago, Justin Bieber got arrested for a litany of things that every 19-year-old has done, or at least wishes they'd done. Yesterday, Hunter Moore, the number-one Revenge Porn dude in the universe and enemy of every person with even a dial-up connection, also got arrested. The last tweet issued before he went to the can?

@justinbieber I'm comin to bust you out lil nigga

— Hunter Moore (@Huntermoore) January 23, 2014

Coincidence? I think not. Hunter Moore got arrested so he could free Justin Bieber.

TONIGHT THERE'S GONNA BE A JAILBREAK / SOMEWHERE IN THIS TOWN / TONIGHT THERE'S GONNA BE A JAILBREAK WHERE HUNTER MOORE BREAKS JUSTIN BIEBER OUT OF JAIL / SO DON'T YA BE AROUND.

Absolut - "Punk Suvival"
Electrical Assault is a small label, but so far they've cranked out nothing but winners. Take for instance their latest release due on March 4th, Absolut's Punk Survival, a new d-beat monster featuring members of Midnight. It's raw, nasty, streaming for free, and highly recommended for fans of Swedish punk, Japanese hardcore, and plain old mayhem.

Bomb the Music Industry! - "It Ceases to Be 'Whining' if You're Still 'Shitting' Blood"

I spent a bunch of time this past weekend and over the last few weeks tailing Jeff Rosenstock and Bomb the Music Industry! which

you can read about here

. (Please read it. Your consumption of my words validates me as a person.) Even though the article ended up topping out at something like 800 million words, I still couldn’t get everything in there. One of the things I had to cut was a question where I asked Jeff what song he could die happy knowing he wrote. He said “Future 86,” the closer on the first album. A great song, but if I’m picking my favorite, I’d go with this one. “Write a song without a hook, remember why you wrote songs in the first place.” Great line. Great band. RIP BtMI!

Wild Beasts - "Wanderlust"

Wild Beasts make my heart go boom in all the right ways. They capture carnality with florid aplomb. On previous albums they've largely concerned themselves with introspection, but their fourth record—Present Tense—(dropping February 24), sees the British trio turning outwards. Over menacing synths and apocalyptic intonations "Wanderlust" dives into crass consumption, the British class system, and the creation of art that's backed by empty intention as opposed to raw red passion.

JT The Goon - "Twin Warriors (Murlo Remix) ft. Novelist"
Something I recommend doing when you're DJing a party full of randoms is playing Rinse.fm rips with extensive DJ conversations over them. One second everyone's chilling then all of a sudden a few British dudes start chatting about who knows what at peak volume. No one will overtly react, but you'll notice people glancing over their shoulder trying to locate the loud new guest in the room. This Murlo remix of a forthcoming tune from grime producer JT The Goon with a verse from Novelist is my weapon of choice. Ezra Marcus, Guest Editor

Young Thug - "Danny Glover"

Young Thug obviously rules. You know this. I know this. But now, Kanye West also knows this. Did you see this video of him drunkenly dancing to "Danny Glover?" No? Okay, well, now you should watch this video of Kanye dancing to "Danny Glover." That's all. Kanye is the GOAT. Have a good weekend.

Nicki Minaj on YG's "My N****" (Remix) f/ Lil Wayne, Meek Mill, Rich Homie Quan

What's great about Nicki Minaj is that—well, there are millions of things—she shines when she's on a song with a stacked line-up of men. And I hate comparing another amazing verse from her to what she did on "Monster" because yes, that was a moment of sheer perfection, but she's done dozens of great things since then—and that was in 2010. But her verse on YG's "My Hittas" remix is basically her own "My Bitches" remix and it's wonderful. There's the "Monster" Nicki—that's the Nicki we heard on "Boss Ass Bitch"—full of force: the voices, the growling, the "I am going to fucking slap you across the face with my rhymes" Nicki. And then there's this, the seemingly effortless side of Nicki's rapping; it's the "Did you think I wouldn't murder you on your own shit (Yawn)" Nicki. "SHOUT OUT TO MY MAIN BITCHES, & MY SIDE BITCHES NEED A N**** WiTH SOME GOOD NECK, OSTRICHES" It's Nicki season, grab your ovenmitts.
