Legalize Drugs and Murder With Uncle Acid & the Deadbeats New Track, "Waiting for Blood"

Although prickly metal fans might balk at the suggestion, Uncle Acid & the Deadbeats are cut from a similar cloth as costumed occultists Ghost. Both channel a bouncy creepiness culled from 70s rock, channelled through layers of fog and mysticism, resplendent with rich organ chords and the groove of psychedelic guitars. Where Uncle Acid diverges, however, is in the serpentine, Sabbathian delivery and utter lack of theatrical pomp, the yin to Ghost's performative yang. The band's otherworldly vocals and shyness in interviews (which they only began sporadically granting several years after their inception in 2009) have only strengthened the impact of their unusual aesthetic. Herein is a band that undoubtedly could have been written off as retro; instead they've made their dastardly sonic ceremonies their own.

Helmed by ringleader Kevin Starrs, the quartet is on the verge of releasing their fourth full length, The Night Creeper, via Lee Dorian's Rise Above Records. If opening track "Waiting for Blood" is any indication, the album will be heralded as a triumph. Richly layered, its groove lies in a snaking riff that turns into a wailing solo while Starrs spins tales of blood and thunder.
