Tyga and Kylie Jenner: Dating or Nah?

There is a rumor on the internet that the rapper Tyga is dating Kylie Jenner. This is problematic, because Tyga is 25 years-old, and Kylie is merely 17. In addition to being outside of nearly everyone’s definition of good taste, this is also illegal—according to California law, if a 25-year-old to have sex with a 17-year-old, it’s statutory rape. Adding to all of this already scandalous scandal is the fact that Tyga recently got divorced from Blac Chyna, the famous stripper/socialite. These rumors have been floating around since last fall, so why are we all of a sudden talking about them now?

This all starts, as everything seems to these days, with Drake. On “6 pm in New York” from his recent IF You’re Reading This It’s Too Late, he rapped, “Heard a little little homie talking reckless in Vibe… It’s so childish calling my name on the world stage / You need to act your age and not your girl’s age.” Shortly thereafter, Amber Rose—Wiz Khalifa’s ex-wife, who is very good friends with Blac Chyna—gave an interview to Power 105.1 in New York, saying that Tyga “should be ashamed of himself” for dating Kylie. Khloe Kardashian, who is Kylie’s big sister, took to Twitter to respond, pointing out that Rose was a teenage stripper and then asking her to kindly keep her name out of her mouth.

Rose responded by implying that OJ Simpson was Khloe’s real dad (there is a longstanding rumor that Simpson, who was close with the Kardashians before maybe murdering his ex-wife Nicole Brown, is the real father of at least one of the Kardashian children), and then tweeting the following meme:

Tyga, perhaps sensing an opening for some free P.R., immediately booked his own interview on Power 105 to address the rumors and air some grievances of his own: namely that TMZ was a bunch of dicks for claiming Tyga and Jenner were a couple, and that Drake was “a nice guy, but on the inside he’s not genuine.”

So now, we’re left with two options: Either (a) Tyga is dating Kylie Jenner and therefore is a sex criminal, or (b) Tyga and Kylie Jenner are just friends. So, which is it? Is Tyga a sex criminal, or nah?

One thing we do know is that Tyga and Kylie have been seen together a lot. The pair were spotted volunteering at a Los Angeles soup kitchen over Thanksgiving, and before that, the two attended a Halloween party dressed as the killer child doll Chuckie and his wife, Bride of Chuckie. Jenner posted a picture of her gripping Tyga’s neck on Instagram in December. Here is another picture from Jenner’s instagram of Tyga sitting in front of some pillows. Could it be evidence of the pair on a bed together? A bed that someone could have sex on? Maybe! Or it could just be a couch.

In January, rumors started to fly that Kylie was pregnant with Tyga’s child. That’s obviously unfounded bullshit, but in the land of celebrity gossip, “pregnancy rumors” generally means “confirmed dating,” so let’s go ahead and file that one in the “evidence” column.

The main evidence that Tyga is not having sex with Kylie Jenner is that he denied dating her on The Breakfast Club:

People are crazy. I’ve been knowing her and her family for a long time. In black culture it’s different. If you hang around somebody, you smashin’. White people, white culture, it’s different. They’re really friends. It’s like, “this my friend.” It’s genuine. It’s different. If i’m friends with her or her sister, they’re (automatically) hoes? We smashing? It’s like, we really friends. I respect her mom. I know her whole family.

In September, Tyga also issued a series of tweets denying the union.

However, such denials should be taken with a grain of salt. If you were a dude with a kid who was dating an underage celebrity, would you admit to it? The answer is no, unless you’re a sociopath.

After issuing his point blank repudiation, Tyga reneged later on in the interview, saying, “If I decide in the future that I want to be with Kylie, or if I decide in the future that I’m gonna be with (Blac Chyna) again, or if I want to be with somebody else… I’m going to dictate my life.” This can be read as either a point-blank “fuck off” from Tyga, or as a sly introduction of the idea of him dating Kylie once she turns 18 and is of legal age.

It seems to me, a blogger who is extremely removed from the situation (my closest connection to Tyga is, like, knowing a girl who one time went to a party I’m pretty sure he was at), that Tyga is probably secretly dating Kylie Jenner, but if the pair were to go public horrible things would happen to him.

There is also the distinct possibility that the relationship, or non-relationship, is merely a fabrication meant to publicity for Fan of a Fan: The Album, his joint album with Chris Brown that literally no one asked for. Then again, Kylie Jenner is a Kardashian, so does something count as a publicity stunt if it involves someone whose family’s every move is sort of a publicity stunt? As Tyga also said in his Breakfast Club interview, “They don’t really care what’s going on in our lives. It’s just entertainment.”
