Hear a New Song from Culture Abuse, Who Just Signed to Epitaph Records

On "So Busted," the band uncharacteristically puts forth a love song.

Culture Abuse's debut album, Peach, came out of nowhere last spring to crack the top ten on Noisey's 100 Best Albums of the Year list, and, in a year that produced albums from heavy hitters like Frank Ocean, Rihanna, Kanye West, and both Knowles sisters, that's pretty impressive. But the San Fran band earned their spot with a record that hit at just the right moment with its songs centered around the idea of taking all the chaos the world dishes out and throwing both middle fingers up at it all. Epitaph Records also saw the value in Culture Abuse, and agreed to release their forthcoming follow-up.

"So Busted," a single the band released today, sees Culture Abuse less forceful and angry than the distorted wall of sound on their first album. Frontman David Kelling inverts the self-reliant worldview the band had become known for to seek comfort in others in this melodic love song. He explains that the song is about "all the stuff you are told you need in life, but when it all boils down all you really want is to feel loved and cared for." You heard it from Culture Abuse first: All you need is love. No one else has ever sung that before. They are the first.

Is "So Busted" a sign of the direction the band will be taking on their next album? We'll have to wait and see. In the meantime, feel free to love and be loved by Culture Abuse.
