Superchunk Are Back with a New Album, a New Single, and Some New Anger

The indie band's 11th studio album, 'What a Time to Be Alive,' is out February 16.

Chapel Hill indie stalwarts Superchunk have released a clutch of frothy, politically-charged singles this year, sounding vital every inch of the way. It felt like it was building to something bigger. Now, they've announced details of a new album, What a Time to Be Alive. It's out February 16 on their own Merge Records (of course). And the announcement comes alongside the release of the album's title track.

"What a Time to Be Alive" is a bright slice of anthemic, anti-Trump pop-rock, propelled by relentless drums and sweeping solos. Mac McCaughan's delivery is upbeat, but sardonic: "To see the rot in no disguise / Oh what a time to be alive / The scum, the shame, the fucking lies / Oh what a time to be alive."

Superchunk are seemingly eternal. Watch the lyric video for "What a Time to Be Alive" at the top of the page.
